Ace Trucking and Co. - Steampunk Style!

Over on the 2000AD FORUM, various artistically minded folks are posting Steampunk interpretations of classic 2000AD characters. And I couldn't resist!

Here's a picture of the pride of the Ace Steam Navigation Company - The S.L. Anime Expedius, hauling her cargo up The River Thames. On board are Captain Chase (Ace) Garp and his crew - George B. Hampton (A.B.) and Mr. Feek (Chief Stoker)...

Of course, she's based on the Speedo Ghost, Ace Garp's ship from Ace Trucking and Co. Designed and drawn by the Italian Great Master himself - the late Massimo Belardinelli.

Freddy Fear - Homeschooled In Horror

I have no idea if anybody is interested, but I was digging around my pile of unused artwork and I found this Freddy Fear proposal. It's one of my many past attempts to get published in The Beano, and was quickly rejected. But I still like it, so here it is as as a pencil rough. Freddy Fear is, of course, copyright DC Thomson.

I Loved The Dandy

Here's one picture I've rescued from my old blog - because I like it! It's a homage to the 70's Dandy I grew up with, drawn after the news of the Dandy's sad demise as a weekly comic. All characters are (c) copyright DC Thomson.

The Beano 75th Birthday Special

Here's The Beano 75th Birthday Special cover I drew a while back. The graphic maestro's at DCT designed a classic cover around this picture, which I originally created for the Beano Town exhibition at the Southbank Centre.

Benny Back With A Bang!

For any fans of the explosive obsessed son of a sheriff,  Bing Bang Benny is back in NEXT YEAR's Dandy annual in four more stories written by Nigel Auchterlounie and drawn by me.

The Bash Street Kids

Occasionally I get to draw a picture for The Beano. It's a honour to draw the characters I grew up with and so exciting that I'd probably draw them for nothing (but don't tell the editor!) Here's my interpretation of the Bash Street Kids from an upcoming Christmas edition. Oh, I love their funny little faces...

Here We Go Again...

Okay, wiser folks than me reckon I should once again have a publicly accessible page on the internet. Apparently, it's the done thing nowadays for anyone artistic to spread their daubings far and wide and catalogue their every brain fart in excruciating detail. It makes good commercial sense, if nothing else.

Older readers may remember my previous blog (Star Chicken) which had so few readers that I quietly put it out of it's misery and squirrelled away all the pictures and other stuff into a directory on one of my dusty external HDDs. I don't intend to disinter much of that stuff, but if there's something you'd like to see again - let me know.

So...

Breaking Bad? Haven't watched it yet.
Miley Cyrus? No opinion.
Kickstarter? Alright for some, but a bit too much like begging.
Harley Quinn Talent Search? I sent in a quick page. I saw nothing wrong with the sample script.

That'll do for now.  I'm Mike Donaldson, known to some as Mike D, and I'm a part-time illustrator, mainly for comics. Welcome to my bit of the web.
